چکیده

Phenotypic plasticity refers to variation in the phenotype that can be attributed to environmental differences rather than genetic differences (WestEberhard 2003); this definition does not, however, invoke the false dichotomy of ‘nature versus nurture.’ Nor does it mean that learning and other phenotypically plastic traits require less genetically transmitted information than do more canalized traits. The same genotype can lead to different phenotypes in different environments, but genes nonetheless play a role in the development of phenotypically plastic traits. Unpredictable and heterogeneous environments select for traits that have a high degree of phenotypic plasticity, whereas stable environments lead to more canalized development. Phenotypic plasticity can be adaptive because it tends to generate a better fit between the organism and the environment. As noted by Alexander (1979: 90), all organisms are to a greater or lesser degree phenotypically variable in ways that enhanced reproduction in the different environments to which they were typically exposed in the past and ‘such plasticity is almost the definition of phenotype.’ Introduction

Comparative Phylogenetic Perspectives on the Evolutionary Relationships in the Brine Shrimp Artemia Leach, 1819 (Crustacea: Anostraca) Based on Secondary Structure of ITS1 Gene

This is the first study on phylogenetic relationships in the genus Artemia Leach, 1819 using the pattern and sequence of secondary structures of internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1). Significant intraspecific variation in the secondary structure of ITS1 rRNA was found in Artemia tibetiana. In the phylogenetic tree based on joined primary and secondary structure sequences, Artemia urmiana and pa...

Evolutionary perspectives on wildlife disease: concepts and applications

Wildlife disease has the potential to cause significant ecological, socioeconomic, and health impacts. As a result, all tools available need to be employed when host-pathogen dynamics merit conservation or management interventions. Evolutionary principles, such as evolutionary history, phenotypic and genetic variation, and selection, have the potential to unravel many of the complex ecological ...

The fusion of behavioral ecology and ecology

Behavioral ecology and ecology have projects in common. Community ecology can provide behavioral ecology with the tools to ask realistic questions about the current action of natural selection. Evolutionary ecology has moved beyond asking ‘‘Why does trait x contribute to reproductive success?’’ and on to ‘‘What are the conditions under which trait x contributes to reproductive success?’’ We nee...

A Study of the Perspectives of Architecturale and Environmental Psychology (Theoreticians and Psychologists)

The concept of place and the necessity of understanding the plan and thus the reality of architecture has always been an important issue for architects. The mental and psychological effects of architectural frames on human beings have been considered from the early shelters to today΄s modern structure. Since the human behavior is performed in defined spaces, it is necessary to design the physic...
